Привет and welcome to our new Russian friends from LiveJournal! We are happy to offer you a new home. We will not require identification for you to post or comment. We also do not cooperate with Russian government requests for any information about your account unless they go through a United States court first. (And it hasn't happened in 16 years!)

Importing your journal from ЖЖ may be slow. There are a lot of you, with many posts and comments, and we have to limit how fast we download your information from ЖЖ so they don't block us. Please be patient! We have been watching and fixing errors, and we will go back to doing that after the holiday is over.

I am very sorry that we can't translate the site into Russian or offer support in Russian. We are a much, much smaller company than LiveJournal is, and my high school Russian classes were a very long time ago :) But at least we aren't owned by Sberbank!

С Новым Годом, and welcome home!

Hey there, it's been a while.

So... My graphics card kinda exploded and I had to buy new parts for my 'puter... and would you look at that! Christmas went by and new year rolling around! Crazy stuff indeed.

I've been living life I guess. I took time off to go sewing plushies again, then I went to this beautiful wedding and a kid seated in front of me was on his phone playing brainrot themed mobile games, I was kinda amazed too by the way he would hop from one game into another by watching an AD and immediately downloading the next game (he trully is the target audience). But yeah, wedding are kinda fire, except when the priest told the woman she must be submissive to her husbad which is laaame. I wish to get married to someone special too one day. Then there was the wedding party, I think I drank a bit too much (I kinda got pressured into it by my brother and my cousin's girlfriend), then I went to my hotel room and passed out for 5 hours, then I hitched a ride back home and didn't bother to go to the second day party.

I went two weeks with no computer so I had to rely on my other hobbies to pass the time. I do have a console with no games in it, so I bought 13 Sentinels (a game no one ever played) because I wanted to try it for a long time and holy fuck that is like a handcrafted masterpiece for my special interests. I get a time travel plot with alternate universes, giant robots, kaiju and it's published by atlus too so filled with lots of student drama. Yeah i played a bit, but I was more interested in reading and writing stuff. I think I rewatched a whole season of Naruto, then I reread the manga because honestly the pacing is a lot better. I also read some books that were collecting dust in my shelf, nothing crazy.

I was forced to leave my shell a bit so I went to the work get-together and it was fine, but I must confess I only went to meet my autistic co-worker, I'm pretty sure she's a lesbian too, I'll probably redact that part later but yeah she's fun to hang around and the only person in the place I work that I get along with. Then there I met a guy that works in another sector and he too played every smt-persona game so we chatted for a bit and he gave me recommendations on emulator (I'm on my emulator era). Then we played bingo and I won twice, so my luck was in check that day.

Christmas was fine, I couldn't wish a merry christmas to my online gaming friends but it was a bit unremarkable. I also went to a water park and it was fun, but the sun was so strong it fried my skin. I also saw my best friend when she came to town, she comes once a year and this time we only got to hang out once, but I'm always happy to see her. We watched the new avatar movie, I must say it's kinda mid, but it's a fun movie, very predictable plot too so meh.

I just got my computer back and I have a lot of catching up to do, I'm kinda tired today so I'll probably handle that some other time.

I wish to reminisce a bit about this year too, but probably will do that in another post.

For now I must say, I'm kinda more productive with my computer but it was a very chill two weeks that I had without it, I was planning on working on something so I think the universe forced me to change my pacing a little bit. Which is fine I guess, gotta live life too sometimes.

For a year and a half now, I've been (lightly) learning Spanish, mainly with Duolingo, Anki, and watching a daily novelita. Sometimes I try and read Spanish fanfics. I must say, I learned a lot in that time period, though I mainly learnt understanding language, not speaking or writing it. I started with a textbook a few days ago, which will hopefully help me with the latter.

Nevertheless, I see progress all around. I've recently restarted a rewatch of Cable Girls with original audio and Spanish subs, and I can mostly understand it! I'm so happy. I remember watching the series a few years ago. It was my first experience watching a Spanish show. I was intrigued by the language but understood nothing, did a first attempt at learning with Duolingo, but it didn't work out. I'm so happy that I've now reached a level where I can mostly understand a TV series now!

Are you learning a language now? Or do you know other languages beside your mother tongue?

I've just finished a rewatch of the first season of Fallout to get ready for the new one. I really love how they adapted this for TV. It's harsh, heartfelt, and absurd at the same time. Being humorous in a horror series is quite an achievement. The second season seems to tap into Fallout: New Vegas, a game that I played only partially after I finished Fallout 3. I just watched the first episode of season 2, and it didn't disappoint. It had the same vibe as the first, which I loved, and an intriguing plot. The quality seems *chef's kiss*

However, I enjoyed the rewatch and the new episode less than when I watched the first season when it came out. That hasn't got anything to do with the series or the franchise, but with the state of the world as it is now. When reading or watching the news, it feels like a lot of things are happening all over the world that seem unnerving. So when I did the rewatch, I was constantly reminded of this, and the post-apocalyptic future depicted in the series felt less like a fun escape and more like the same gloom we see on the news nowadays. Has anybody else had this experience with this series, or another series/book in the current times?

In October of this year, I started working for a Belgian online magazine covering Dutch/Flemish comics. It's volunteer work, but I loved the idea of working for the magazine, doing articles and interviews, so I applied for the job when I heard of it. Happily, I was accepted. One of the first interviews I did was published in the magazine today, and it discusses a comic based on the Russian avant-garde and absurdist writer Daniil Kharms (or Charms, in Dutch) by Dutch Illustrator Wouter Gresnigt. One of Daniil Kharms' better-known short stories is "Old Women Falling Out" from 1937, and it's featured in the comic. This is the short story:

Excessive curiosity made one old woman fall out of a window, plummet to the ground and break into pieces.

Another old woman poked her head out of a window to look at the one who had broken into pieces, but excessive curiosity made her too fall out of the window, plummet to the ground and break into pieces.

Then a third old woman fell out of a window, then a fourth, then a fifth.

When a sixth old woman fell out, I felt I’d had enough of watching them and went off to the Maltsev Market where I heard that a blind man had been given a knitted shawl.

I had never heard of Daniil Kharms before I was asked to do an article about this book. I read the comic and was intrigued. I write sometimes, very short/flash fiction in Dutch or stories for my own comics, and I instantly felt a connection to the humor and absurdist nature of this work when I read it. I decided to read a few of Daniil Kharms' short stories bundled in a small book after reading the comic, and I loved it. There is something so honest about his absurd stories in this form, for life can be absurd if you pay attention to what happens every day. For anyone looking for short stories, I greatly recommend the Russian author. The comic by Wouter Gresnigt is also great but is currently only available in Dutch.
